Mrs. A, who is a family friend of ours, a retired teacher/principal, AND one of my references, came up on Friday and she helped me tremendously. She has such an eye for setting up a classroom and with her help, we figured out exactly where all of my centers will be! So far, my favorite part is my reading corner. There is still SO much work to be done but here are some updates:
This is the playground right outside my room!
The door to my room!
Me in my room!
Those white cubbies will SOON be gone! They take up WAY too much space.
My future reading corner! We also added a lamp, rocking chair, and blanket in here:
So much to do!!
Getting to work!
This is the beginning to a few centers! In the far corner is the reading center, writing center in the middle and the next bookshelf will start the puzzle/games center.
I'm hoping to really start decorating this coming week! I have lots and lots of laminating to do!
On another note, here are a few things I saw in other rooms that I would LOVE in my room! I'm not sure if you all have seen or heard of these...
How cute and functional is this for a center/small group activity? Interview flip books (with a play microphone!), fluency building books, fluency sliders, and expression passages and spinners! So cute!
Love these wrap-around games. The kids really pay attention as everybody is reading their cards and they can't WAIT until it's their turn.
Looks like I need to start figuring out how to spend my instructional money!

Thank you! I love the fluency station too! I have GOT to find it and get it for my room. Going to follow you right now :-)
DeleteGood luck with your first year of teaching! My advice to you is always treat each year like it's your first. I have been teaching for 30 years and I am not burned out yet! :)

Thank you so much!! I'm very excited! I hope to be just like you in 30 years! Followed your blog :)
DeleteI am always so excited to find another 1st grade blog but also a first year teacher. I really didn't have a good mentor my first year and I had no blog or Pinterest to turn to. I love to share things that work in my room with others especially when it might not be something that everyone does. For example, I know everyone has jobs but we have jobs like the Wish Well Leader, the Cheerleader, the Greeter, and the Kindness Recorder. I would love to talk to you about any of that. I really love to share about how we build Our School Family.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to be your newest follower. I would love for you to hop over and visit me when you get the chance. I have TONS of *freebies* that I recently shared for Back to School. The monster ones are adorable. I am going to use them the first few weeks for literacy and math centers. =)

Wow, thank you so much for these kind words! Going through these blogs has helped me so much already and I haven't even started. I would definitely love hearing about those classroom jobs because I don't think I've heard of those few you mentioned! I am your newest follower and will definitely be taking advantage of your freebies! I will need all of the advice, help, and constructive criticism that I can get! Thank you so much, Heather!
DeleteWelcome to the wonderful world of teaching! You will have a fantastic first year and you will always remember fondly
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every minute.

Congrats on your first teaching job. You are gonna be great, I can tell, you already have so many great ideas and plans. And your room will look fantastic when you and your Mom are finished. I love the Peace and Love theme, it's so fun! Can't wait to see pics of your room when it's done:)
